The Guiding Light
In March 1998, at 17, Bethany Joy Lenz won a 9-episode gig in CBS’s soap opera The Guiding Light. She was first cast as the teenaged version of popular main character, “Reva Shayne”. Reva was a vixen, a spirited troublemaker, and one of daytime TV’s most married characters, having been married nine times to seven different men.
Bethany Joy made a great impression on viewers, critics and the head honchos at The Guiding Light. So much so that she was later recast as another character, “Michelle Bauer Santos”, when Rebecca Budig left the role. This was an unusual move and “unheard of” in the industry according to CBS producer Mickey Dwyer-Dobbin.
In November 1998, Bethany Joy Lenz started her role as “Michelle Bauer Santos”, a character who always attracted trouble but was at the center of one of The Guiding Light’s incredibly strong love stories. She continued as the 4th actress to play “Michelle Bauer Santos” and remained in the role until 2000. This was one of her most popular roles to date.
